Parent Volunteer Needed!

We are looking for a parent volunteer to take over the role of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) Advisor for the 2017/2018 school year. This is a great way to easily fulfill your volunteer hours and directly support our students. This position can be done entirely from home on your own time. There are two drives per school year plus a few end of year activities. If interested, please contact Jeanette Cherrington, in the front office or by email at jcherrington@nvusd.org. She will put you in contact with the current advisor, who will train you for the role.

We are in need of the following items to keep on hand for the students: Cough Drops, Breakfast Bars, Band-aids, Feminine Products, Juice Boxes, Cheese Sticks. Thank you for any items you can supply.  You may drop them off in the front office.

Saturday Academy Workshop on February 25th

Hello, Parents of 11th, 10th, and 9th Graders!
The first of our four college planning workshops was a huge success.  The next workshop is being held on Saturday, February 25th, from 9 a.m.-12 noon in Room 13 at New Tech High. The workshop will be facilitated by local college counselor, Heidi Hamler, and will be focused on helping 11th graders and their parents get started on actively planning for college. The workshop will also be beneficial for 9th and 10th grade families. Students, parents and guardians are all welcome and encouraged to attend!  A Spanish translator will be available during the entire workshop.
To register, simply fill out the attached interest form and return it to Mr. Johnson at New Tech High.
The cost of each workshop is $25 per family. If the cost is a problem for you, please let Mr. Johnson know; money is available to help you. You may call New Tech High at 707-259-8557 to speak with Mr. Johnson or email him. His email: rjohnson@nvusd.org.

Panelists Needed for In-Class Debates!

Should patenting of seeds be legal? It will be decided with in-class debates!
Students are researching how seeds are “invented” through genetic engineering (from gene to protein), the motives behind the genetically engineered seeds, and strategize how to protect genetic biodiversity of our food supply amidst modern-day farming techniques.

February 13th, 2017
4 Panelists needed for each of the following blocks:
Block 3-4 Presentations are from 10am – 11:40am (4 panelists requested)
Block 6-7 Presentations are from 1:15pm – 3pm (4 panelists requested)

No special experience required, but legal, political, or science background would be a plus.

SAT Prep Classes for 10th & 11th Graders

In partnership with SurferMath, we are able to offer a SAT Prep Course here at New Tech High for a discounted price.  Last year, 30 NTHS students participated and their average scores went up by 100 points!

There are 3 workshops offered and targeted at Sophomores and Juniors.  Visit SurferMath to learn more about the program.  Spots for all three workshops will fill up fast, so if interested, please fill out the form and return to the office.  Scholarships are available and no student will be turned away!

Jan. 18, 6:30 pm – PSAT Info Night

Attention all 10th and 11th grade families!  Your student took the PSAT in October and the results are in!

Join us on Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30 pm here at New Tech High for our PSAT Info Night.  Students and families will get their score sheets, learn what that score means, and explore next steps!  See you there!
