Napa New Technology High School is an innovative leader in Project-based Learning with nineteen years of success educating and transforming students’ lives.
Our Mission is to inspire students to be responsible, resilient, and personally successful in the rapidly changing 21st century, and to be a student-centered model for educational innovation. In keeping with our mission, New Tech High School has launched its “Center For Excellence” and offers targeted professional development, training, and support to educators locally, in the state, across the country, and around the world.
Through its Center For Excellence, New Technology High School (NTHS) offers a series of modules which provide insight and training for school staff, teachers, and administrators. The New Tech approach utilizes project and problem based learning (PBL/PrBL) to facilitate rigorous content mastery of state standards and the common core standards, and fosters deeper learning skills like collaboration, critical thinking, written communication, oral communication, and technology/information literacy.
Those who participate in this NTHS training program will experience the following modules:
- A one day project or problem simulation: Participants will play the role of a student within a project or problem and complete tasks as a typical NTHS student would. Facilitators will model best teaching practices and reflect with the participants on their experiences.
- Two days of PBL design: Participants will spend two days designing their own project or problem based unit to be used at their school site. Participants will begin the process of developing a driving question, entry event, rubric, scaffolding activities, and project calendar. Emphasis will be placed on addressing the common core state standards and how PBL/PrBL can best teach those standards. In addition, participants will have time to observe NTHS classrooms and talk with NTHS students and staff.
